Motorola V635

Introduction

Last year Motorola released the V600 gaining widespread fame following a simple formula; building a state-of-the-art clamshell with well-rounded features packaged in a conservative clean design.

Going on to have a lifespan of well over a year when the industry retires most phones in a matter of months, Motorola now hopes the achieve the same popularity with a successor, the newly released V635.

Making significant improvements over the now outdated V600, the V635 leverages the power of its 1.23-megapixel camera for 8X digital zooming, EDGE for high-speed transfer rates, and quad-band functionality for global roaming capabilities.

Design

Encased in a conservative metallic shell, the V635 offers a sophisticated feel uncompromised by unnecessary flash. Retaining similar design traits from the V600, the V635 weighs 134 g and measures 89 x 49 x 25 mm when closed; a bit larger than average phones on the market.

Motorola V635 ClosedFeaturing a 96 x 80 external screen, the 4K-color front panel displays time, signal and battery strength, phone status information, and even messages to notify users of incoming calls. Adjacent to the LCD, the lens and flash to a 1.23-megapixel camera peeks out, able to capture images at up to 1280 x 960 px in resolution.

Removing the front cover reveals a TransFlash memory card slot (with microSD adapter) underneath for expandable storage.

A Smart Key along the left side performs operations by predicting likely actions to follow, such as selecting a menu item after it has been highlighted. Nearby, Volume Keys adjust earpiece and ringer volumes during calls and standby times.

On the right side, functions to record messages and initiate voice dialing are activated via a conveniently placed Voice Key.

Incorporated within the top edge, a 2.5 mm jack is used for wired handsfree access, while a USB-capable data port is hidden beneath a rubber cap.

The charger is plugged into the Connector Port on the bottom, along with optional accessory attachments that may be purchased.

Opened, a 176 x 220 px 65K-color screen is revealed; positioned above a 5-way navigation keypad surrounded by Send, Menu, Camera, Power / End, and Left and Right soft keys. Well designed, a numeric keypad utilizes iTAP predictive text to provide quick and convenient text messaging.

Out of the box, the Motorola V635 comes with a standard 780 mAh Li-Ion battery, travel charger, hands-free stereo headset, 16 MB TransFlash memory card, microSD adaptor, USB cable, software CD, and user manual.
